UH Cheer Audition Sign Up Form

UH Cheer Audition Schedule- June 7 and 8 (team fittings on June 9)

Location: Winston Band Complex, TDECU Stadium (3780 Cullen Boulevard)

Friday:  

5:00-5:30 pm- Registration

  • All paperwork and payment ($35.00 check or money order- NO CASH) are due

  • Numbers will be assigned

5:30-6:30 pm

  • Round 1

    • Standing tumbling

    • Running tumbling

6:30-8:30 pm

  • Open gym- judges will observe you working in groups for skill, team work, and attitude.

    • This time will be utilized for stunts and partner work

    • 2 stunt group limit per person

  • Interviews begin

**Building will be open until 9:00p

Saturday:

8:00 pm- Bert Winston Complex doors will open

    • Warm up on your own

8:30-10:00 am

  • Interviews continue/Review of Game Day Material

10:00 am-12 pm

  • Round 2 (cuts may occur)

    • Game Day (sequence will be taught in the morning session)

      • Fight Song

      • Land of 1,000 Dances

      • One chant

  • Round 3

    • Group stunts

    • Elite stunts

12 pm- 1 pm

  • Judges will make final selection

Results will be posted by 2:30p on the website.  There will be a team meeting in the band hall with Coach Harbert and Mr. Kubos at 2:45p.

Sunday:

2:00 pm

  • All cheer who make the team and need to be fitted by Varsity reps can come during this time. Measurements can also be turned for students who make the team through videos but are not present for the weekend. Students who do not make the team do not need to be present at all on Sunday.

SKILLS

(Female athletes will need to have the following skills)

Jumps

·       Jumps to tuck or higher

·       Jumps to back handspring back or higher

NOTE: You may do up to three whipped jumps before your tumbling

Tumbling

  • Standing (tuck or full)

  • Running (Anything to tuck, full or specialty passes)

Stunting - All Girl

  • Game day - all game day stunts will be TWO man stunts

    • Bump and go extension

    • Bump and go lib

    • Toss extension

  • Elite - elite stunt combinations may have two bases and a backspot

    • twist or flip up

    • twist or flip dismount

    • in the air the top girl must have two different body positions

Example for all girl elite stunt sequences:

Full up to stretch, turn for arabesque and double down. (Not limited to these skills)

Stunting - Coed

  • Game Day

    • Bump and go lib

    • Bump and go extension

    • Toss extension

  • Elite

    • Any toss stunt to an extended level - may come back down to hands for a transition

    • Flyer must show at least two different body positions

    • Combination must include a flip or a twist up OR flip or twist dismount

Example for coed stunt sequences:

You may do a toss to lib back to hands arabesque full/double down; then a low to high corkscrew full up stretch full/double down. (Not limited to these skills)

NOTE: These are just examples and you may make up any stunt sequence with up to two main stunts with any transitions you choreograph. 

Stunts you can include for all girl and coed:

·       Partner stunts: Toss or walk up

·       Quick tosses: Straight toss, full ups, ball ups (any of these can go to two feet or pull through)

·       Tick Tocks: giddy ups, low to high, high to high (any of these can spin)

·       Spinning: Full ups, hands or high to high full a round’s, 1 ½ ups, double ups (any of these can go to two feet or pull through)

·       Flipping: Front handspring ups, back handsprings, rewinds, and cartwheel ups (any of these can go to two feet or pull through)

·       Dismounts: cork screws, yoyos, straddle, full/double downs, etc.

REQUIRED FORMS - YOU MUST BRING #1 and #2 BELOW WITH YOU TO TRYOUTS FRIDAY EVENING:

2: Waiver form found here. If under 18, a parent must sign.

3: Personal information form you will fill out when you check in.

Friday (no university logos permitted)-

Ladies: Red top and black shorts

Gentlemen: Red t-shirt and black shorts

Saturday (no university logos permitted)-

Ladies: Black sports bra and black shorts

Gentlemen: Black t-shirt and black shorts

***Please make sure you bring appropriate tennis shoes for tumbling and stunting***
